Why you should take care of your furry friend's teeth

Even when your sweet cat stretches contentedly on the sofa, a look into its mouth reminds you that it is a predator with those sharp canine teeth. The cat’s dentition serves as a hunting tool, a feeding instrument, and a means of communication with other cats. Therefore, it is important that the teeth are well cared for. This helps prevent plaque, tartar, and gum inflammation.

Dental problems usually start with plaque. The coating is thin and barely visible. If left untreated, this mixture of food residues, mucus, and bacteria develops into tartar. If the hard tartar is not removed by a veterinarian, more bacteria accumulate, leading to inflammation and other issues.

Brushing your cat's teeth

The simplest way to keep your cat’s teeth clean is by brushing them. You can start even before the teeth change. Older cats may require a bit more patience, and some cats may never fully get used to it.

Be gentle while brushing and use special cat toothbrushes and toothpaste designed specifically for cats.

Care tip: Brush your cat’s teeth at least twice a week. Daily brushing would, of course, be ideal.
